It is the end of the summer. School is back in session. Long evenings and barbecues are coming to an end. It’s a time of year where many hoped to shed some summer pounds with increasing activity but instead they gained. This year, why not give your body a treat? Direct Osteopathic Primary Care will soon be launching a semi-annual guided whole foods elimination diet. It is time for a post-summer detox. Have you ever wondered what is wrong with your digestion? Why you feel bloated and gassy after some meals and not others? What is causing your headaches? Why you keep needing the extra cup of coffee to relieve the brain fog? In the past several years, alternative medicine doctors and traditional medical doctors have come to some similar conclusions. There is now evidence that what you eat actually impacts your health! The problem is, there are so many fad diets that come and go it’s easy to get confused on what you should be eating. Many of those diets are effective, but none help you learn specifically about your body, your triggers and yourfood intolerances. After Labor Day, get ready to join us on for the whole foods elimination diet where you can learn about you. Stay tuned to this newsletter for more details soon! Join Us at the Direct Osteopathic Primary Care Open HouseThe clinic is now open, boxes are slowing moving into their permanent positions and the beautiful mural on the waiting room wall is nearly finished. Our next information session Sept 12 at 5:00 PM will be hosted as an open house with hors d'oeuvres and introductions to the model of care as well tours of the new space. RSVP here.
Join us that evening and meet the newest addition to our family centric wellness center, Miranda Cacek L.Ac. Miranda is an acupuncturist and massage therapist who utilizes body talk, a way of accessing the emotional triggers underlying chronic pain or disease. Come and meet her at our informational session and open house or check out her Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/bodywisdomacupuncture/ See you soon! Dr Brie

Come to Our Medicare Coffee HourDo you want a doctor who will be there for you or your loved one through the later years? With Medicare many are inundated with choices. The options can seem daunting. We can help make sense of things.
Medicare can work well with the direct primary care model. Come to the office for Medicare Coffee Hour WEDNESDAY 8/24/16 at 9 AM to find out how we can help make sure you or your loved one has quality care through all stages of life. Meet us at: 16 Lakeside Lane, Lakeside, Colorado 80212 If you can't make the coffee hour but you have questions pertaining to your specific insurance coverage register here for a meet and greet. Hope to see you. Caring for families is my favorite thing to do. I take care of new babies and grandparents and everyone in between. Why not sign up everyone? Dr Brie Earlier this week we had a great turn out for the first informational session. It was wonderful inaugurating the new office with all that could join—thank you for coming!
For those that missed, there is a Medicare specific informational session Aug 24th at 9 AM. Non-Medicare patients are welcome to join at this event as we will provide general information on the benefits of the direct primary care model, as well as specifics for those with Medicare. If you prefer an evening informational session join us at the next one, 5:00 PM on Monday 9/12/16. Latecomers and children are welcome. Snacks will be provided. Sign up for one of the info sessions here. A good question that came up on Tuesday was “How does direct primary care work with referrals?” The answer is simple: I will always work with your insurance to your benefit, including processing referrals, prior authorizations or whatever other hoops are required to get you the care, imaging, medication and specialists you need. The challenge comes with networks that exclude out-of-network physicians from ordering privileges. Many insurance companies allow an out of networks physician to order tests and referrals. Generally HMO plans are more restrictive but some are flexible so it's best to review your plan specifics together. If you have questions about your insurance and if it is compatible with this model, set up a free meet and greet and we can go over your specific details. To sign up go to https://mydenverdo.md-hq.com/registration (it will seem like you are registering as a patient, but there is no commitment required after registration; it simply allows for easy scheduling). Have a great week and remember, if your summer has been long and fun, we can help reset your metabolism after Labor Day. Next week I will send out details on our end of summer detox, whole foods elimination diet. If you need more energy or want to figure out what may be triggering a chronic condition, you will be sure to want to join us for two weeks of health coaching and support. Members can enjoy the service for free, why not join now? ☺ —Dr. Brie
This week the kids and I set out on a interior decorating journey for the new office. I rewarded their patience with mommy errands with a trip to the Butterfly Pavilion.
It is always a joy for me to walk through the tropical room there. The blue morphos remind me of my time in Costa Rica, when once I took a walk in a real jungle littered with the large metallic blue creatures. My favorite part at the Pavilion is to stand in front of the cocoons and watch them. They are a dazzling array of gold and blue and green, each with a new life transforming inside. When it’s time, they start jiggling and soon they are out with fresh wings, taking a pause before the first flight. The process of growing my new practice over the next several months will be part of my own metamorphosis as I move from a corporate employee to a business owner and physician paving a new way for patients and doctors to engage in a new kind of care that serves us all. On the way out of the pavilion we made a stop at the gift shop—ever popular with my kids—where I found a beautiful piece of art for the waiting room. I hope it will carry the energy of the transformation forward and bring a smile to those of you that know what it means to me. Speaking of bugs, I was made aware of a few bugs in sign up process. If you tried to register as a patient or for a meet and greet and had troubles, please forgive me and try again. It is all working now. To inspire transformation in your life, why not join me in a whole foods elimination diet later this month? Stay tuned for details next newsletter--join here! Dr. Brie |
