Happy 5 years Shannon! 🎉 ❤️

Shannon Burton, MA, has been an integral part of our family for five remarkable years!!! We could NOT be happier that she joined us years ago. Her dedication and expertise (along with incredible phlebotomy) has been a gift to DOPC.

Shannon wears many hats for us and her impact resonates deeply within our organization. As we celebrate Shannon's five-year anniversary, we extend our sincerest gratitude and we eagerly anticipate the many more milestones we will celebrate together in the years ahead!

NEW! Brain Health Program 🧠

One year ago, on Feb 10, I had a car accident with my daughter Fiona that I will never forget. At first, it didn’t seem like much but the brain bruise it left for both of us was the start of a deep inward journey. There is nothing quite like the injury of a concussion. No one can see it, you can’t describe it to anyone outside of your head and the healing process is non linear, as brains go. It has been an up and down process for both my daughter and I but boy, do I know my neurons now better than ever before. I am happy to say I have learned a lot over the past year. And I am ready to share it with all of you.

Our journey towards understanding brain health began with the Stress Recovery Program, initially crafted to address the challenges of provider burnout during the COVID-19 pandemic. My personal exploration into cognitive health and holistic wellness led to the creation of our Brain Health Assessment Programs. At the heart of these programs lies advanced diagnostic tools like Neurotransmitter testing and quantitative EEG (AKA: Brain Mapping), providing us with unprecedented insights into brain function and mental well-being.

Guide to Care: What is qEEG and Why Does It Matter??

When doctors want to understand how our brains work, they typically use traditional neuropsychological tests, which can be tricky and take a lot of time. That's where something called quantitative Electroencephalography (qEEG) comes in. Pioneered by neurologist Marc Nuwer in the 1970s, qEEG utilizes advanced algorithms to analyze brain signals, offering precise insights into neurological and psychiatric conditions.

By comparing patient data with normative data, qEEG enables clinicians to systematically detect and measure brain activity anomalies, guiding interventions and improving patient outcomes. Dr. Steven Rondeau BCN's comprehensive article delves deeper into the clinical applications of qEEG, highlighting its role in predicting treatment response and monitoring disease progression. Neurotransmitter testing offers a unique glimpse into brain chemistry, helping us understand the balance between calming and excitatory brain chemicals. Providers familiar with Neurotransmitter testing understand its limitations, and its benefits. I began to really like Neurotransmitter testing after years of comfort with the test and interpreting various results.

Then I met quantitative EEG aka “brain mapping” and I fell in love. Brain mapping provides a visual representation of brain wave patterns, revealing crucial insights into cognitive function and emotional well-being. I have never encountered such amazing technology! We now have biomarkers for mental health. What a revelation! What is more, our brain map report from Steve Rondeau @ AxonEEG solutions comes complete with lifestyle recommendations, personalized supplement and medication suggestions.

It has been an incredible journey learning to interpret the brain maps of pilot patients in our program since Sept 2022. With a brain map, in addition to tendencies toward anxiety, depression and ADHD, you can also see patterns of impulsivity and overhwelm. Additionally, there are indicators of cognitive processing speed, which changes as we age. Personally, I plan to get a brain map myself every year. Why not keep up with your favorite friend and understand what it is up against?!

Many of you know my passion for building the great programs we have in our Healing Pathways at DOPC. Combining Neurotransmitter testing with a brain map (Brain Health Level 3) gives us a unique window into the Gut Brain connection. If you are looking to understand your Brain and Hormone journey - look to Brain Health Level 4 our best 360 degree view.

I am proud to say that at DOPC we are once again on the cutting edge of traditional, caring and fundamental primary care combined with the best of holistic health. This is what paving the way looks like.

Book your brain map in February or March of 2024 and receive $185 off Levels 2-5.

As always, to find the most up to date information about any of our Healing Pathways Programs go to your Patient Portal > Labs and Documents > General Resources for All Patients > Healing Pathways. Seems hard to find, but once you are there, it’s worth it. 😉
