Welcome to Celebration

Happy Birthday To DOPC!

Every August, we celebrate another year of Direct Osteopathic Primary Care by reflecting on where it all began. In the early days of building the practice while raising two young children, there wasn't always time to journal, so Dr Brie recorded video journals instead—capturing the challenges, victories, and everything in between.

This month, we're sharing a few of those archived video journals and would love for you to celebrate with us! Follow along on our social media for some good laughs and reflections.

Join us for our Anniversary Open House

And yes—the family favorite tostada bar is back with Fiona (Dr Brie’s daughter) and her Bestie who helped in kindergarten and are now in high school, boy does time fly.

We can't wait to celebrate with you!

PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT

Protect Young Athletes with a Baseline Brain Map (qEEG)

If your child plays a contact sport like football, soccer, lacrosse, hockey, or cheerleading, consider a baseline Brain Map (qEEG) before the season begins.

Quick & Non-Invasive: A simple 15-minute test that measures your child's brain activity.

Why It Matters: Standard structural scans like MRIs or CT scans look for physical bleeding, meaning they routinely miss the subtle metabolic and functional disruptions caused by a concussion.

Personalized Baseline: Every individual's brain wave patterns are unique. By mapping your child's healthy brain activity before the sports season begins, we establish an exact, personalized fingerprint.

Safer Recovery: If your child experiences a concussion or head injury, we can compare a follow-up qEEG to their baseline, providing objective data to help guide return-to-learn and return-to-play decisions.

Back-to-school season is here!

As you prepare for earlier mornings and school supply shopping, don't forget to schedule your child's annual wellness exam.

A school physical helps ensure your child is healthy, up to date on vaccinations, and ready for sports and other activities. Appointment availability fills quickly this time of year, so we encourage you to schedule early.

If your child needs school or sports forms completed, please allow 3 business days for processing. Bringing forms to your appointment or uploading them through the patient portal in advance helps us complete these forms quickly.

Tips for Parents & Kids

For Parents:Taming the Schedule Chaos

The sudden shift from relaxed summer days to rigid schedules, carpools, packed lunches, and homework demands creates a steep spike in parental stress.

  1. Streamline Routines: Prep outfits, backpacks, and lunches the night before to eliminate chaotic mornings.

  2. Guard Your Time: Say "no" to extra commitments during the first four weeks of school to allow your family time to acclimate.

  3. Practice Self-Compassion: Expect a few bumps during the first month; a perfect transition does not exist!  Remember that you are doing your best!

For Kids: Monitoring the Modern Student

The return to school can bring new academic, social, and digital pressures. Stress doesn't always sound like "I'm overwhelmed"— it shows in other ways.

  1. Watch for warning signs: Frequent headaches, stomachaches, irritability, sleep changes, or withdrawing from favorite activities.

  2. Create screen-free time: Especially during the hour before bed to help the nervous system unwind.

  3. Keep the conversation open: Ask questions like, "What was the most stressful part of your day?" to encourage meaningful conversations.

For more communication tips, we recommend How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish (the original book is great, and there is a teen version also).

Final Thoughts from DOPC

As summer comes to a close and new routines begin, remember that good health is built through small, consistent habits. Whether it's scheduling a wellness visit, supporting your child's mental health, or setting goals next visit to simply take time to care for yourself, we're here to help every step of the way.

We thank our Founding Members for paving the way and making it possible to create a healthcare world that is different, unique (and lets be honest, better than what is out there!). No matter how long you have been with us, we are happy you found us.

Thank you for being part of our Direct Osteopathic Primary Care family. We hope to see you at our anniversary celebration, and we wish you a healthy, happy start to the school year!
